Winnebago County – The County of Winnebago Department of Health is offering the antiviral treatment Paxlovid to everyone who tests positive for COVID.
Paxlovid is an oral drug used to treat COVID-19. Take 3 tablets twice daily for 5 days. Anyone over the age of 12 who has tested positive for the virus can schedule an appointment to receive this treatment from the Winnebago County Health Department.
Dr. Sandra Martell, Public Health Administrator for the Winnebago County Health Department, said:
When making an appointment, you should visit your health department to ensure that any pre-existing conditions or medications will not interfere with Paxlovid.
“You don’t necessarily need a health care provider to do that, and it really helps protect the health care system for people who need treatment for heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes.”
Doctors say it’s possible to relapse and test positive again, but symptoms after treatment are rare.
“Some people report that their symptoms went away after the first few doses and that they felt dramatically better after taking Paxlovidm,” said Dr. Stephen Bartlett of OSF St. Anthony. increase.
Health experts say it’s not a perfect cure, but Winnebago County remains moderately at the community level. This means the health system is starting to strain.
“If you believe you’ve tested it, and they’re testing positive effects on it. It really, really works,” says Dr. Bartlett.
Since it was first offered in August.. More than 20 people have booked appointments and about half have received the dose.
Those interested in Paxlovid treatment can make an appointment through the Winnebago County Health Department website. They have spots available five days a week.
