How did you start Veil Cosmetics?
I saw an opportunity to improve the texture of my makeup in the no-makeup category, so I put my brand name and Waitress Beauty tagline on it. I’ve taken a traditional approach to makeup by infusing it with skincare and using high-quality ingredients to reveal rather than hide my gorgeous skin.
What did you like about the early process?
When I launched Veil Cosmetics, everything felt great and great to accomplish. I loved all aspects of creating new makeup, including making sure I was multitasking. Creating new websites, creating logos, making the rounds and meeting fans, meeting makeup enthusiasts at trade shows, traveling to make brands known wherever they are…the list is Continue. The launch at NY Fashion Week is also a highlight.
What didn’t you like so much?
If you’re a newcomer with over 15 years of professional makeup experience at the time, but most people don’t know you and you’re not a “celebrity,” no one will give you time. I pretty much shrugged my shoulders at being sold online. Today it is the norm.
Your brand has been having big issues with social media lately. what happened?
Yes, my personal Facebook account was hacked and as a result the Veil Cosmetics business Instagram account I manage was deleted as well. Once the aforementioned Community Guidelines are “violated”, it becomes very difficult, if not completely impossible, to even try to recover. I have not recovered my account yet. This page was quickly deleted along with my business Instagram account.
Wow! So it’s still not fully fixed?
It’s not resolved yet. Meta has no customer service. Always just a bot, I ran around and still do. I have not recovered more than 50,000 followers on Instagram.
Do you have any advice for other indie beauty brands that came out of that experience?
My advice to other indie brands coming from experience is to make sure you have two-way authentication. But make sure your password is very secure. I thought so, but to this day I still don’t know how the hack happened. please give me. Try to grow your customer email list as much as possible because it’s the only thing you can control at the end of the day.
Now let’s talk about beauty. Do you have new products for autumn?
We are planning a big launch to celebrate our 10th anniversary this fall. It’s hard to say at this point, but this is a big surprise. But it’s certainly the perfect evolution for the brand, and we’re Veil Cosmetics because we’re all about skin. And while I hate to use the word clean, it would be acceptable to eliminate harsh ingredients. But it’s easy to use.
