One thing you should know about living in Miami is that it’s hot.
The heat is unavoidable, but dry-fitting, lightweight clothing, also known as athleisure, is better than sweatshirts and pants.
Sophomore Ashley Cohon loves athleisure, especially when walking in the humid UM of southern Florida.
“Biker shorts, tank tops and sneakers have been my holy grail this semester,” Cohon said. Athleisure keeps me cool and comfortable.”
In the blazing Miami heat comes a very bright sun.
Most UM students can agree that sunglasses are a must in Miami, including sophomore Chase Cohen, who couldn’t leave his apartment without his favorite sunglasses.
“Without sunglasses, I squint everywhere I go,” Cohen said. “They are a staple here in Miami.”

Whether it’s after a hard day of classes or a lazy Sunday, our campus pool is the perfect place to kick back and relax.
Keep your swimwear and flip flops handy, as every day you’ll find students taking a break from class to cool off by the campus pool.
“It’s great going to school in Miami, because instead of napping indoors when you’re tired, you’re lying outside by the pool and enjoying the sun,” says junior Ally Joseph. Told. “Swimsuits and flip flops are a must for UM students.”

Considered the Sun State, South Florida’s clear skies can turn into a major thunderstorm in a matter of minutes.
Sophomore Ethan DePalma says his waterproof raincoat and durable umbrella have saved him several times from having to sit in the back of the auditorium soaking wet in unpredictable South Florida afternoon showers. increase.
“In UM, when it rains, it pours,” says DePalma. “Even if I’m not wearing a raincoat, I always carry an umbrella in my backpack just in case.”

Miami is known for art, food and fashion. At pop-up art exhibits and Michelin-starred restaurants along the Bayshore waterfront, UM students express themselves around town in funky, unique costumes.
Sophomore Aly Kirsch said she always looks forward to exploring the city with her friends on the weekends in fashionable clothes.
“Whether it’s a downtown restaurant or a concert, experiencing the beauty of Miami will make you want to take pictures with your friends, and it’s fun to dress up once in a while, so wear nicer clothes. I highly recommend it,” Kirsch said.
