Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) – This native Hawaiian fashion designer is about to make history.
Kumu Micah Kamohoalii is preparing to embark on a European fashion tour showcasing his Hawaiian designs.
He will first present his new collection at London Fashion Week on September 17th.
A week later, Kamohoalii designs hit the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week. He will soon wrap up his tour at Paris Fashion Week.
Excitement is in the air as the designer and his team of 30 Hawaiian models and musicians prepare to travel to Europe by train.
His one-of-a-kind apparel, Dezigns by Kamohoalii, brings Indigenous Hawaii to life through traditional designs, bold colors, metaphorical imagery, and strong cultural symbolism.
Kamohoalii is a European fashion tour bringing the essence of Hawaii to Europe through three cultural showcases featuring Hawaiian runway models (including immediate family members), kapa pounding, chants and performances by award-winning vocalists and dancers. said to bring From his Halau Na Kipupu, who presents ancient and modern dances.
“I like to take arrays of models,” added Kamahoalii. “I like to shoot real, real people, real Hawaiian people. So I had to teach my aunties how to walk in heels and stilettos and, you know, boots.”
By participating in Fashion Week Europe, Kamohoalii hopes to provide insight and education into authentic Hawaiian fashion, art and culture.
In addition to his European tour, the fashion designer has opened two new stores on Oahu. One is the Pearlridge Center and the other is the Windward Mall.
He said the next biggest funding challenge will be footwear.
