COLLEGE STATION, TX (KBTX) – At a public meeting Wednesday at Texas A&M University’s Memorial Student Center, the Texas A&M University Board of Trustees decided to extend its May business school and Fort Worth leases.
Construction of the Business Education Complex, an extension of the May Business School, is scheduled to begin in September, with substantial completion expected in October 2024. is located on Olsen Boulevard, northeast of Wennerville. The total budget for the project is $84,197,309, paid for in various ways including donations.
Duane Ireland, interim dean of Mays Business School, said the expansion of Mays Business School will enable the university to offer better educational opportunities to students at all levels. The new building will include electronically wired huddle and collaboration spaces purposefully designed to encourage interaction among students, Ireland said.
“There will also be a cafe on the ground floor,” Ireland said. “While only coffee and beverages will be served, this provides an opportunity for individuals to meet, collaborate and share ideas. Students can sit informally and talk about their projects.”
Ireland said this is a great opportunity for Mays Business School to provide students with the skills they need to survive in tomorrow’s business environment.
“I think this is a great sign that Texas A&M University is committed to educational excellence with regards to Mays Business School,” Ireland said. “I think this shows that our schools, colleges and universities are committed to providing excellent educational opportunities for all students at all levels.In this case, these are only face-to-face communications. It will be a great educational opportunity, not only technically, but technically as well.”
The Fort Worth lease expansion will add 10,630 square feet for new University of Texas System offices in Barnett Plaza in downtown Fort Worth. Texas A&M system members, including Texas A&M AgriLife, Texas Division of Emergency Management, Texas A&M Engineering, Mays Business School, and Tarleton State University, will move to these new offices, making them one of the first entities to join Texas A&M University School. will be Law as part of enlargement.
“This additional expansion allows the Texas A&M University System to have a presence in North Texas,” said Kim McCuision, Vice Chancellor and Director of the Texas A&M University System Fourth Worth Campus. “Additional partner institutions, as well as other researchers and industry partners all together in one complex where he can ask some of the big questions we face.”
The expansion is part of the university’s vision to create an urban studies campus in downtown Fort Worth called “Aggieland North.”
“The law school is moving into the first two phases, and we will soon have two buildings here,” McCuistion said. “The first building is for law in addition to the other academic programs offered there, and the second building will focus on research and innovation. The building will be constructed after the current law school was demolished.
Construction of the Law Education Building is scheduled for 2023 and will be funded by proceeds from the Permanent University Fund. A research and innovation center will also be built around the same time.
During the meeting, Regent also voted to name the entrance to Highway 21 to the Texas A&M RELLIS campus Gus Grissom Boulevard after late astronaut Virgil “Gus” Grissom.
