- Jamila Main had to spend five days wheelchair-free after she lost her wheelchair in Qatar.
- A friend who works at the airport said Qatar was still looking after finding the chair.
- Passengers said they lost their independence and felt “abandoned” and “frightened”.
A Qatar Airways passenger was forced to go on a five-day vacation without a wheelchair after the airline lost it while traveling from Australia to Scotland.
Jamila Main, 28, was informed by staff 30 minutes after landing in Edinburgh on 30 July that her wheelchair was missing and that she had to return the one provided by the airport when exiting the terminal. I was told I had to.
“It took away my independence,” Main told Insider. , I had to sit and act and plan every minute of the day.”
A walking wheelchair user checked in prior to a flight from Adelaide, Australia, was given a wheelchair and seated.
She filed a lost bag claim at Edinburgh airport after being told it was lost, but nothing was returned and she assumed it was lost when changing planes in Doha.
“It’s essentially my leg, not the loss of luggage. It’s the equivalent of hurting someone’s leg while walking. If you had a kneecap risk, you wouldn’t be flying.”
Main told a friend who happened to work at Edinburgh airport that he found it and delivered it to her on Friday.
But she also got a call from Qata customer service saying they were looking for a wheelchair.
Main told a customer service agent in a WhatsApp message seen by an insider that it had already been taken down.
“I felt abandoned and terrified not to see my wheelchair again,” she told Insider. I have.”
Maine is scheduled to return to Australia on September 1st but is ‘concerned’ that her wheelchair will be damaged. The actor and author travels a lot with her work, but she said the experience made her “annoyed” that she had to travel in a wheelchair. Told.
“I am traumatized and heartbroken. I have not dealt with the weight of what happened and Qatar’s customer service has been terrible,” she said.
Qatar Airways and Edinburgh Airport did not respond to insider requests for comment.
