Dane Speer, Business Director, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Cranes), was awarded the Department of the Navy (DoN) Civilian Service Commendation Medal. The CSCM is his fourth highest civilian award in the Navy. According to the citation, Speer received the award for “professional achievement for outstanding performance as Acting Chief, Deputy Chief, and Deputy Director of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, and his Director of Business.”

As Business Director, Speer oversees strategic functions such as workload planning and assessment, technical capability health assessment, strategic and corporate business planning, investment portfolio, employment planning, and various other metrics. Speer holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana Wesleyan University (1988), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance and Business Administration from Indiana State University (2012), and a Certificate in Public Management from Indiana University (2012).
