Instagram is opening up its platform to NFTs, paving the way for mainstream visibility and coming closer to the promise of digital fashion wearables.
Instagram’s Digital Collectibles feature, which lets people share NFTs in their feeds, will roll out to people in more than 100 countries after testing in May, the Meta-owned company said Thursday. allows you to share NFT images and tag the creator and owner. Crypto wallets Coinbase and Dapper are now supported, in addition to MetaMask, Rainbow and Trust Wallet.
This feature brings NFTs to a huge audience. Instagram reports an estimated 2 billion monthly active users, putting it well within the wheelhouse of fashion and beauty brands. These industries have started experimenting with NFTs, and their communities are now mostly active on Twitter and Discord. Brands selling NFTs can get more reach and visibility on Instagram. For example, Gucci has about 49 million followers on his Instagram, while the Gucci Vault Discord server has slightly more followers than his 56,000.
For creators and brands, increased visibility means more education and potential monetization opportunities, says trial photographer Sophia Wilson.
“The NFT community has become a very white, male-dominated space. “If he just scrolls through Instagram and he sees an NFT, suddenly it doesn’t look so hard and he has a conception of what it is.”
Only about a quarter of U.S. adults are familiar with NFTs, up 11% from a year ago, according to Insider Intelligence, suggesting interest in the technology could grow. .
