on the other hand, PS5 is already capable of outputting some pretty nice graphics, but these visuals will improve as developers grow into hardware and the engines they use evolve to make better use of the power it provides. One such engine is Unity. Joining forces with tools from Wētā Digital, Ziva, SpeedTree and SyncSketch, Unity has made its biggest evolution yet. What does this mean for everyday PlayStation gamers? Well, better graphics for future games that use the Unity engine!
PS5 Lion: Unity Art Tools
A new tech demo called “Lion: Unity Art Tools” shows a real lion interacting with a real lion cub. What makes this so impressive is that it’s running in real time at 4K 30 FPS on PS5.
Previously, creators had to wait for such a scene to render, which took much longer than the scene itself took to play. Now, with the help of Unity Art Tools, I can process these images in real time and output them at his smooth 4K 30 FPS on PS5 hardware.
Unity’s blog post here goes into more detail. However, for those looking for a quick breakdown, the tech demo showcases features such as animal transformations, high fidelity foliage, realistic fur, advanced global illumination, hair simulation, and advanced lighting. I’m here.
The showcase is quite impressive, but we know that many readers of this article will be eager to learn as they see this technology implemented in the latest video games. No word on that yet, but I hope it happens sooner or later!
