OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa University Athletic Director Arabie Conner and Sports Information Director Katie Tooley are pleased to announce the hiring of Michael Douglas as an Assistant Sports Information Director within the Sports Information Office.
Douglas will enter his first year as an assistant and will be a valuable asset to the Ottawa University Sports Information office. He will be in charge of interviewing student athletes and coaches for the upcoming school year. Douglas will be assisting teams on campus with social media and graphic design. Also, he will be the main contact for cross country, men’s and women’s golf and women’s wrestling.
Douglas is no stranger to Ottawa University as he recently completed his Master of Arts in Leadership at Ottawa University and was the graduate assistant for the Sports Information office. He was the main contact for the women’s soccer team, women’s lacrosse, cross country, men’s and women’s golf and women’s wrestling. He assisted numerous teams on campus with social media and graphic design, most notably with volleyball, men’s basketball and women’s wrestling.
Before completing his Masters, he obtained his Bachelor’s of Arts in Sports Administration at OU as well. Douglas was the student assistant for two years in the Sports Information office before taking the graduate assistant position. Douglas became the main contact for the women’s soccer team during the 2019 season. Also, he covered the cross country, golf and men’s and women’s track and field teams. He created press releases and graphics for social media for the events. Douglas also learned from Sports Information Director, Katie Tooley how to correctly input statistics through DakStats software for basketball, softball and baseball.
Also as a student at Ottawa, Douglas was the Director of Basketball Operations for the men’s basketball team. He ran their social media, was a team tutor and helped out at practices. During his senior year, Douglas started and played in a game on “Mike Doug Day” for OU and scored a basket for the Braves. The shot was featured on Sportscenter on “Why We Love Sports”.
Douglas’ first day at OU was August 1st.
