Katie Couric and daughter Carrie Monaghan stepped out Wednesday night as a mother and daughter for the Markarian fashion show at the Ukrainian Institute of America. Monahan in an apple red and pink wave print corset dress, and Couric in an orange and white gingham shantung asymmetrical flounce dress.
“It was my first fashion show, so it was really exciting,” said documentary film producer Monahan. “I loved Markarian and thought the clothes were beautiful, especially the big black and pink gowns. I loved having the older models and the not-skinny models. They were all amazing,” she said.
Couric said Carrie wore a Markarian dress last year when she was maid of honor at her sister Ellie’s wedding. We were both big fans,” Couric said.
She said Carrie was very excited when they were both invited to the show. We got our hair done and our makeup done.It was like going to prom and I guess I was the annoying chaperone!
“We haven’t been to any other shows, but it was really fun to embrace everything…the setting was so pretty and seemed to suit the flowy, ultra-feminine clothes. I knew Nicky Hilton a little bit and it was fun sitting next to her. Told.
Monaghan has been busy lately with her sister, Ellie Monaghan, on her podcast, All Each Other Has. It analyzes topics such as her proxy fame, sleepover camps in the American imagination, and adolescence growing up in New York. Cities, and cyberbullying. She’s currently in the middle of a series about the messed-up world of New York City’s private schools, inspired by Caitlin Flanagan’s work on last year’s Atlantic, she said.
In Markarian’s front row were Veronica Webb, Jasmine Sanders, Ivy Getty, Anna Baryshnikov and Candice Bushnell.
