Hilary Holmes has a lot on her plate. Read her answer to the first question in our interview and you’ll see why. Through her practice as a makeup artist and leading masterclasses for people to learn the basics of makeup, Holmes believes everyone deserves to feel good in the body they live in. what is your morning routine?
It usually depends on the day before! If I’m at the salon, it’s a quick 15 minute makeup look. If you’re mumming, you might just comb your hair. If you are shooting, it will take 30-45 minutes. Watch out for my tutorials and if you have an event, I’m all in! Two hours from head to toe and you’ll feel better.
When it comes to skincare, I usually use a toner and then put it in a serum. I love hyaluronic acid and I stock The Ordinary so I have all the serums so I have like 5 of them. I usually use niacinamide and a buffet serum that has all the good things in it. Then straight to Embrylis Crème Late Moisturizer and Sunscreen.
what’s your nighttime routine?
Unlike my morning routine, my evening routine is always the same. Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser is the perfect cleanser to remove makeup. After I shower, I immediately apply hyaluronic acid, followed by retinol, followed by an ultra-moisturizing moisturizer and eye cream, such as Habitual Beauty Face Oil or Medik8 Ultimate Recovery Intense. I love the eye cream and tatcha peony. Lip balm if you’re dehydrated, so most nights… lip balm.
Please explain what you do for a living. What does a typical day look like for you?
I am a makeup artist and founder of Hilary Holmes Making and Holme Beauty. HHM is part of the business where myself and my team of artists build great relationships with our clients and create beautiful makeup for them. She has also run HHM for the past 6 years, running the Back to Basics makeup masterclass program with great success. This program teaches kind people how to apply facial makeup every day. Last year, 2021, I launched Holme Beauty, a product line I’ve wanted to do for the last decade. Performance products for women who feel overwhelmed and intimidated by establishing their own beauty routine. And with Holme Beauty, I feel like I’ve found my true calling!
A typical day for me is starting work very early, knocking out time on my laptop, checking in with my team, working on product development, and getting all production ready for the next release. , creating some content for educational platforms on social while trialling products with clients. would like to exchange And then I drop everything, pick up the kids from daycare, and go back to being a mommy again! After that, you might cuddle your husband, work on your laptop, or go out to dinner or an event.
What are your favorite supermarket/chemist beauty products?
French and Asian pharmacies are one of my favorite places to discover brands and beauty trends that English-speaking countries haven’t caught up to yet. What is your body maintenance? What products do you use on your body?
For a long time I was extremely obese. He is one of the reasons I became a makeup artist. So even though I haven’t spent a lot of time on my body, I’m learning to change it! and enjoys dry brushing to help detoxify the body.
How do you stay fit/healthy? Is exercise a big part of your routine?
Six years ago I had gastric sleeve surgery and lost 50 kg, but I was really sick and had horrible complications from it. So, for the past 6 years, I’ve been really passionate about finding my body’s health, and I’ve had her two babies. My pregnancy really hit me hard and I had some health issues. So my job is not to push myself too hard, keep my feet on the ground, and don’t go all out with diet and exercise. It was so hard to prioritize between baby and work. But I’m proud that my focus has slowed down and I’m more focused on working on my mental health and making healthier decisions with my diet. – I am too old!
What procedures or professional treatments were performed?
I am an advocate of a consistent skin care routine and nothing helps more than Botox! I have also used lasers and IPL for years to control rosacea and capillaries. I recently tried his PDO threads through my jawline and will always try treatments to keep my skin looking younger as naturally as possible.
What do you do when your body needs to recover?
Sadly, after being pretty sick this year, I now have glandular fever so I literally have to slow down these days. We need to make sure the space our drivers create is protected. I now work regularly with my husband and team to call out when I feel tired and create space for me to recover. If you don’t, you can get pretty sick.Being a mother of two young children is hard.
Are You Tired/Tired: What’s Your Beauty Hack?
Over the last few years, I literally created the product I needed when I was feeling exhausted: the Holme Base Primer. Do you have a beauty icon? who are they and why?
If I’m being completely honest, no. When I was younger, it was very difficult to respect someone because no one would talk to me. Being an overweight, poor, uncool kid, I felt like no one had any sympathy for me. I can’t say that hasn’t had an effect on them! It’s only in the last few years that I’ve felt like someone really worked for me growing up in the 90’s! I think Ashley Graham, Rhianna, and Adele are great for many reasons, but mostly because they’ve stayed true to their own authenticity.
