One of the perks of my job as a beauty editor is being able to test brand new products before launch. Sometimes new launches are great, sometimes they’re just so-so. Other times it rocks my whole world, like his 1994 Volumizing Mascara and Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss from About Face. Halsey’s facial beauty stood out from the jump in a landscape full of celebrity beauty brands, so I’m not too surprised. About Face’s Matte Fluid Eye Paint has truly changed the eye makeup game. Not only is Halsey deeply involved in formulating and manufacturing About products, ensuring that everything is as clean and sensitive as possible, but in April 2022, Halsey will drop the brand’s prices across the board. , making About more products. Anyone can access it. About Face is currently dropping two new products, a volumizing mascara and an eye gloss, which we got to try before the official launch on Tuesday, September 20th.
Glossy lids have come and gone, but they were definitely seen at the Spring/Summer 2023 NYFW shows. Meanwhile, long eyelashes have always been that moment. I love removing my mascara and eyegloss around the start of fall. Because now is the time to take beauty risks, experiment with new looks, and switch aesthetics with the seasons. As always, Halsey’s beauty brand did not disappoint. In fact, the latest product, like those that came before it, actually gives people like me who are desperate for makeup brushes access to the real art of makeup. You’ll find my honest review of the 1994 Volumizing Mascara and Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss.

- Who this is for: 1994 Volumizing Mascara is perfect for those with short lashes. Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss is perfect for anyone looking for a fun and exciting beauty look.
- What I Like: I like the price of both new products. I am also a fan of the final effect and the application process was easy.
- What I Don’t Like: Not the biggest fan of the 1994 Volumizing Mascara Brush, but it’s not. No fan of it.
- My Rating: 4.5/5
my lashes:
My lashes are a pain in the butt. They are sparse and straight and need a lot of help in both the volume and length departments. Being sensitive, I often skip mascara altogether.
About-Face 1994 Volumizing Mascara:
About Face claims its 1994 volumizing mascara primes, lengthens, and lifts lashes. It claims to be uniquely designed to deliver. This claim turned out to be almost entirely true. I wore his 1994 Volumizing His mascara for about 10 hours and it didn’t flake or smudge. I even stabbed my eyes with the brush during the application process, but it didn’t leave any normal mascara brush bite marks on my face afterwards. My lashes are pretty sparse, so too many coats of the 1994 Volumizing Mascara left me with slightly spidery lashes, though not as spidery as they usually are.
About Face Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss:
Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss, which promises a non-sticky, glass-like luster, is also recommended as a topper. I was thrilled with this product because it’s all about glazed donut beauty moments.
Packaging:
I love the chrome look of both the mascara and the eye gloss tube. The Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss features the same applicator sponge tip as the Matte Fluid Eye Paint and is also the same size and shape with a fancy chrome exterior.
I’m not a big fan of the 1994 Volumizing Mascara brush, but it’s not about the brush, it’s about how I feel about this type of mascara wand. I prefer fibrous brushes. I have sensitive eyelids and can scrub with a stiff brush. Furthermore, stabbing the eye with a hard brush hurts even more.
First impression:
I was most excited to use a face-changing vinyl-effect eye gloss. My first impression was, word for word, the following thoughts.
How to apply:
Applying the Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss should be the penultimate step of your makeup (the last step being the application of mascara). First, apply two coats of lime green matte fluid eye paint on the slime moment, let the matte shadow dry completely, then dab on the gloss. So I switched to dabbing the gloss onto my finger and onto my eyelid for the second eye. .
To apply the 1994 Volumizing Mascara, I first curled my lashes, then applied coat number 1, starting at the lash line and wiggling the brush. I ended up putting three coats of his mascara on one eye and two coats of hers on the other (in the name of science!). In the photo below, one eye is without mascara and the other is with three coats of 1994 Volumizing Mascara.
result:
As you can see in the before and after pictures of the eye gloss, the vinyl effect eye gloss creates a truly glassy finish. The 1994 Volumizing Mascara is one of the best lengthening mascaras I’ve ever tried. It’s very editorial and means you get spider lashes if you apply too much of a coat, but that’s also the vibe I’m not mad at.For this review, he’s three times on the left eye and on the right eye I applied only two coats, so you can see how easy it is to apply the mascara. Overall, I found the mascara to give more length than volume, but I was immediately impressed with the gloss on my eyes and enjoyed the mascara as well.
material:
About Face is cruelty-free and their products are designed for people dealing with hypersensitivity, which is especially relevant since Halsey herself is talking about a hypersensitivity she dealt with due to an autoimmune disorder. These two products are vegan and free of synthetic flavors, gluten and phthalates.
Similar products:
About Face is known for its unique makeup, and their 1994 Volumizing Mascara and Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss are no exception, so it’s hard to recommend something similar, but everyone loves it, so I gave it a try. As for the eye gloss, there are two available right now that get the job done in a similar way: Danessa Myricks Beauty’s Colorfix Glaze in Clear achieves the same mirror finish, but is more expensive at $18. Also, since it comes in a tube without an applicator, it is a bit difficult to apply. Ariana Grande’s Rem Beauty also recently released an eye gloss for $16.
The two closest mascaras to About Face’s 1994 volumizing mascara are cult favorites. Thrive Cosmetics’ Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara is Instagram famous for its similar brush. It costs $24 and offers a lot of length, but I really disliked how stingy the brush was and found it often clumped sparse lashes.Macstack Mascara from MAC Cosmetics has been my go-to mascara since its launch because it literally doesn’t clump, but at $28, it’s the most affordable of its kind.
worth it?
I wore this look for about 5 hours and it did not dry out my eyes. It’s also worth noting that I switched from green to pink shadows for dinner with friends with mascara on and my eyes didn’t start to itch until about 10 hours later. worth the money. Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss is the only product that doesn’t stick to mascara and doesn’t leave your eyelids greasy or smudged. Given that both products cost less than $20, we recommend these products for anyone with sensitive eyes who likes a lot of look without too much effort.
Final Verdict:
Between price and ease of use, both Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss and 1994 Volumizing Mascara are in a permanent rotation in my makeup bag. About-face’s Matte Fluid Eye Paint and Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss combo is basically the peanut butter and jelly fall beauty trend.
About-face’s 1994 Volumizing Mascara and Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss will be available exclusively on October 2022 on about-face’s website and Ulta.com on Tuesday, September 20.
