European parliamentarians condemn China’s aggressive move, Lithuanian foreign minister says Taiwan ‘cannot become another Ukraine’

German parliamentary delegation will visit Taiwan in the first week of October, German parliamentarian Holger Becker said on Monday, when he visited Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers Fan Yun and Lin Yijin at the Bundestag in Berlin.
Asked by a fan if he was worried about possible retaliation from Beijing, including banning him and his family from entering China, Becker said, “Now is the time for democracy to come together.” said he was more interested in visiting Taiwan.

The group accused China of undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, adding that China “must not unilaterally change the status quo by force of arms against the will of the Taiwanese people.”
Members of parliament have the duty and right to travel abroad to uphold freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and should not use this as an excuse for provocation, the statement said.
Seventy-nine lawmakers from 28 legislative bodies, including Europe, Canada and the European Parliament, pledged to “support and support Taiwan” through “regular visits, joint dialogue or cooperation.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the group for speaking out quickly on behalf of Taiwan and encouraged democratic partners to visit Taiwan and show their support.

“Appeasement does not lead to peace,” he said, adding that “the free world cannot and will not allow Taiwan to become another Ukraine.”
