NEW YORK (AP) — Anshu Jain, the former co-CEO of Deutsche Bank, has died, his family said in a statement on Saturday. he was 59 years old.
Jain passed away after battling duodenal cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2017.
Jain served as Co-CEO of Deutsche Bank from 2012 to 2015, where he helped build the company’s global capital markets business. As co-CEO with Jürgen Fitschen, he was the first non-European to lead a German bank. Prior to that, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Deutsche Bank in 2009 and since 2010 he ran the corporate and investment banking division.

After leaving Deutsche Bank, Jain served as president of New York-based financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald from 2017 until his death.

After starting his career as a derivatives research analyst at Kidder Peabody, he moved to Merrill Lynch where he founded and ran the company’s global hedge fund coverage group for seven years.
Jain was born in Jaipur, India in January 1963. She earned his MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. According to his family statement, he was a lifelong vegetarian and loved wildlife photography, cricket and golf.
He has a wife, Jeetika, a mother, and two children.
