Fashion Schooner wins Hambletonian Oaks

East Rutherford, New Jersey — The fashion schooner followed in her mother’s footsteps as the winner of the Hambletonian Oaks, rising from the post-10 lead to a 2-1/4 margin in the $500,000 event for 3-year-old female trotters on Saturday (August 6). I never looked back to win the . 1:51.2 length at Meadowlands. Coco in Pink Her Chanel finished in her second place.
The fashion schooner’s alma mater, the Broadway schooner, won the 2009 Hambletonian Oaks. Jim Campbell trained a Broadway schooner for Fashion Farm, and the duo returned to the winner’s circle on Saturday with the home-breeding Fashion schooner.
“That’s it,” says fashion farm owner Jules Siegel of seeing a fashion schooner replicate his mother’s work. “We still have our mother and she produces what we want.”

Tim Tetrick led the fashion schooner to its third win at the Oaks, joining Glenn Guernsey and Ron Pierce for the third-most wins of all time. Yannick Gingras holds his record of six and Berndt Lindstedt holds his record of four.
After 7-5 favorite Wallawee Zegna faltered at the start, the fashion schooner used the opening quarter of 26.1 seconds to take the lead from Mon Cheval, with 55.1 seconds at halftime and 4 minutes in 1:23.1. 3 times were recorded.
“I know she was quick in the first quarter, but my mare was aggressive and got out of there on her right foot and felt great,” Tetrick said. “There was no pressure on her. So the rest of the work was up to her.
“When I flashed up at 55 minutes[in the half]I was happy. Since then, I’ve allowed her to keep moving a bit and not let anyone get too close. And you know what?” Are you ready? We got the job done.”
The Fashion Schooner has won 5 out of 8 races this year. Her wins include division of her championship in the New Jersey Sire Stakes and Delvin Miller her Memorial. In her career, she has won her 5 of her 11 starts and earned $468,462.
Due to her illness, she was limited to three races at the age of two.
“I don’t know how well she’ll do, but she did well enough last year that we thought she had the ability to do it, if all went well for her,” Campbell said of the final. “She’s fast, she has good gait, she’s good on the ground, she has good posture. She likes racing.”
Ejected 6-1, the fashion schooner paid out $14.00 to win.
