The family of a popular small business owner in the southern suburbs wants answers after a loved one was shot dead earlier this week.
Tavares Davis was shot dead near Drexel Avenue and 115th Street in Dalton on Tuesday, officials said. A well-known local entrepreneur, Davis and his wife founded The Funnel Cake Man, a funnel cake business with stores in Orlando Park’s Orlando Square Mall and Merrillville’s Southlake Mall.
On Sunday, family, friends and neighbors gathered to fly a balloon to remember Davis, who did everything he could to serve his community.
Family members say they have identified multiple suspects or witnesses in the deadly shooting and are pleading with them to come forward.
“Go to the Dalton Police Department and tell them what you know,” said Davis’ wife, Nakesha. My children deserve to know the truth, and the community deserves to know the truth about what happened to my husband.”
The Davis family, along with community activists Andrew Holmes and Michael Earhart, are offering rewards of up to $3,000 for information leading to arrests.
“Those who took his life know who you are,” said Holmes.
Anyone with information regarding Davis’ death should contact the Dalton Police Department at 708-841-2533.
