FAIRLEA, W.Va. (WVVA) – Besides showcases about food, rides and agriculture, Fairley’s West Virginia Fair has another facet: art. In fact, art can also be worn as fashion. The fair offers a variety of clothing options, including official 2022 State Fair shirts.
Shirts and other souvenirs can be purchased at the fair’s arts and crafts barn. Step into the barn and be surrounded by Appalachian apparel.
“One of our shirts is flying off the shelf.
The West Virginia Company is set up inside a barn. Owned by Bernadette Dombrowski, this is the first time her small business has set up shop at the fair.
According to Tom Handy, who works for the West Virginia Company, all work is done from home and most business is done online, except for occasions like state fairs to sell goods. The business is based just outside Morgantown.
Another popular shirt of the year reads ‘Morel Support’ on the front. Morel is a type of mushroom.
“Understand, it’s kind of Morrell’s support, and that’s what they call Molly Moocher in County Wyoming. But everybody knows it’s Morrell,” said David of County Wyoming. Bugs Stover said
T-shirts aren’t the only thing popular at The West Virginia Company booth. There are postcards, stickers, metal cans for sale, and even items that fit on the outside of Crocs-style shoes.
“First of all, Crocs are great. I think these shoes are great. “It’s another way to show your West Virginia pride wherever you go. I think it’s another way to show that you’re getting a little bit of West Virginia wherever you go. I love rolls, appalachia[things you put on your shoes]and I think that’s great.”
Of course, every company needs ambassadors to model their clothes. Bowers says he’s happy to help. Large photographs of her modeling clothes are on display for shoppers to see.
“It’s a really big (display). When Bernadette Dombrowski travels to different places, there are those who say, I’m there you are and I’m oh my goodness, there you are.”
You can purchase official State Fair shirts at the Arts and Crafts Barn or the Merchandise Store. All shirts here are $25. You can also order online.
