Atlanta, GA (CBS46) – Quila Bohannon is a mom who spends most of her time helping her hairless kids feel attractive.
“These are hair donations,” said Quilla Bohannon.
The package in front of her is full of hair, but for Kira and the many children who rely on her, these tresses symbolize hope.
“My life has changed a lot now,” said Bohannon.
Quira says the house she grew up in recently caught fire.
“As soon as we got to the front porch and jumped out the door, the pressure from the house fire started slamming the door and exploding the windows and doors,” Bohannon said.
She ran her own business and her organization, Free Wigs 4 Kids.
“I make free wigs for children around the world who are suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions,” said Bohannon.
On Tuesday morning she showed us through the rubble.
The damage of the fire weighed heavily on Quira’s mind.
“I had a huge bin full of hair, donations, cards people sent. Some of the donors had cancer. I wanted to see the Nation go to the kid. They’re all gone,” said Bohannon.
People who heard Kira’s story wanted to help. For many, that meant donating his hair so Quilla could keep his organization thriving.
“We don’t know when, where or how we’ll move forward, but I have no doubt we’ll continue to make Free Wigs 4 Kids,” said Bohannon.
