Last month, a team of Lebanese County youth arrived at State College to showcase their handcrafted creations at the statewide Fashion & Textile Review hosted by the Penn State Extension.
In a review contest held on July 30 at the Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus, 48 Pennsylvania 4-H’ers presented their finished garments and textiles and how they were made. discussed what they had learned along the way.
This year, seven Lebanese County contestants participated, all of whom have been members of the 4-H Friends Club for the past five years or more.
Textile Review gave Madison Copenharbour the highest honor.
Lebanese counties dominated three of the top five fashion reviews. Copen Harbor also placed her in first place in this competition, joining Olivia Morrissey in her second place and Jolene Vongardner in the top five.
All participants created coveted garments, some of which took months to complete, as shown in the photo above. A guide to these unique items is illustrated left to right by 4-H.
- Stella Klynoot created an unlined cotton blend jacket with contrast bias binding on the inside seams.
- Lyndsy Zechman has created a lined wool ‘moto’ jacket with precision topstitching. She also won Best of Show for Advanced Sewing at the recent Lebanon Area Fair.
- Hope Wagner made a blue Swiss-dot tiered lined dress with puff sleeves. She also made a cropped white denim jean jacket with lots of topstitching and jean tuck buttons.
- Mackenzie Stellmach created a colorblocked sweatshirt with topstitching, a lined hood, silver grommets for drawstrings and pouch pockets.
- Olivia Morrissey stitched a tan wool knit dress with bishop sleeves and an olive green lined wool wrap coat with tan topstitching.
- Madison Copenhabber sewed a lined bias-cut checked wrap jacket, lined wool paper bag waist pants, and a short-sleeved merino wool knit t-shirt. Madison also created a cross-stitch painting (not shown) in which he won first place in a textile review contest.
- Jolene Bomgardner created a graduation dress out of black knit and embroidered black mesh sleeves.
Their instructors include 4-H Mentors Maureen Wright, Carrie Linear, and Linda Siegel.
